Where do you look for new ideas or voices in fashion?
Books. I collect books that inspire me. Great ideas are hidden in them, [even if] they never feature new voices. The Internet is where new voices all start.
Who or what is generating the greatest influence in fashion today?
Creativity. Being able to make people dream and escape their grey-as-f--k reality is something that’ll bring people on board. The ultimate influence and also the rarest one.
What is a men’s wear trend that best reflects this current moment?
The end of streetwear. We’re back in a corporate world, baby. With corporate rules and corporate discrimination…
When was the last time you marvelled over something in fashion?
That Balenciaga roach killer shoe. But it’s too expensive. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to putting 900 (euros) in a shoe.
Tell us a surprising story about how you got to where you are today?
In 2019, the apartment where I lived in Paris was in a really bad state. One day, the townhall committee in charge of housing passed by and deemed the whole building unsanitary, which suspended all rent from tenants until renovation was done. But then Covid happened and delayed everything. Basically for three years, I did not pay rent in Paris, saving me tens of thousands of euros. So I had time to try things, including social media, which got me where I am today!
In what ways might you hope to have an impact on fashion this year?
In pushing people to be bolder, pushing new voices to speak their mind and advocating for a free speech. Because without that, we’ll never get out of this creativity void that we’re in at the moment.
