Flashback to Off-White

The Off-White runway from the lens of Karl Hab, a photographer who continues to explore the world’s major cities – Los Angeles, Hong Kong and most recently, Paris – through his 24H book series. Here, Hab captures the “blue universe” proposed by Ib Kamara in his first collection as art and image director for the brand birthed by the late Virgil Abloh. The mastermind designer, who would have been 42 today, favoured this vivid hue; it frames the cover of his book Figures of Speech from 2019. For today’s show, Kamara signalled bodies and morphologies through various surface treatments that played out alongside many of the brand’s emblematic concepts. Call it a remix of Abloh’s body of work. The show was further enlivened by a performance overseen by Afro-punk band Tshegue and choreographer and dancer, Nicolas Huchard and filmmaker Stephen Isaac Wilson.

Constantly fascinated by the dynamics of fashion, music, and culture, Hab makes his way through Paris Fashion Week, both behind the scenes and at the centre of the action. He focuses the collective experience down to a gaze or gesture, a tactile detail, a visceral feeling. His senses come through in high definition. Each image, a fleeting moment in time imbued with a compelling sense of timelessness.
