A Conversation with Shiatzy Chen

For SHIATZY CHEN FALL WINTER 2021/22 collection, Madame Wang, the design director of SHIATZY CHEN is inspired by the concept of “TIME”. This collection features modern and sleek power dressing looks yet the femininity is still inscribed.

Vicky Chien, Editor in Chief of 500 TIMES, a bi-weekly special issue featuring art, culture, fashion, music, literature, and design of United Daily News, leads a conversation with Madame Wang:

What are the words you want to use to describe this Fall-Winter 2021/22 collection?

Weaving, time, surreal, dreamy.

What are the stories behind that influenced the collection?

The accumulated time and experience that SHIATZY CHEN has been through, from Taipei to Paris, the transformation in between time and space.

What are the changes for women and ready-to-wear in the era of pandemic?

Everyone including women is returning home, to the safe zone. The value of unification is even more important in this era. Industry, professionals have more discussions on versality, sustainability.

Let’s peer through your collection, what have not been done before?

A less complex language, reduced luxury, ageless, timeless, every occasion.

What do you want to express through the show collection video?

A historical site, cultural heritage built in 1909, time seems frozen in Guanyinshan Water Reservoir. The sand flows through the river of time, thoughts shifts in between dimensions of time and space. Runway sets inside, I see a clash, an intriguing way seeing forward-looking fashion.
