ISSEY MIYAKE Fall-Winter 2025: The Winter of Angels

Report

There's an obvious pleasure in letting yourself embark on this both earthly and celestial trip, throwing off all moorings to realise that a simple piece of fabric, an embroidered Venetian drape, is the starting point for a breakaway: “Fly with IM.” Silhouettes cloaked in white, angels floating, torsos wrapped in featherweight quilting, knits airy, as if in suspension, atmospheric gradations giving wings to winter. There were city sarouels, parkas cut like ponchos weighing just a few grams, shirts with floating flaps, caped coats—the comfort always remaining weightless. All of this is ideally suited to imagined travellers heading from a construction site meeting in New York to a metaphysical resort, from an immersion in the heart of Bhutan's Amankora to a restorative masterclass in ashtanga yoga  from a London penthouse terrace. The ground fades away, and you feel floating. Colour blocks suddenly emerge across perforations on slipper trousers; the subtly gradated palette from oats to turmeric; the dunes on a black night – these intense purples, the yellow of a rising sun. Irresistibly Miyake.
