A Conversation with: Junichi Abe (Kolor)

Since 2005 when he founded Kolor, Junichi Abe has been patterning and composing different fabrics and textures into highly wearable looks. Season after season, he revisits sportswear, military elements and tailoring as a new proposition, building upon a recognisable aesthetic that has made him among the most prominent names in Japan’s new wave of designers.  

Are you a dreamer?
No, I don’t think so.

Why do you think people dream of working in fashion?
Maybe they have experienced being moved by fashion.

When was the last time a dream came true for you?
I have had no such experiences in my past.

Do you have a dream that remains unfulfilled?
This is less about the dreams, as I don’t really have them; but there are so many places that I have not visited. So, I would like to visit them someday.

What is your wildest dream for the state of the world?
I hope that child poverty will disappear. Not only in developing countries, but also in developed countries where this issue still exists, as it does in my country, Japan.

What is one dream you would like to achieve this coming year?
It will be that my next collection will be the best collection for Kolor.
