Where do you look for new ideas or voices in fashion?
Street style in New York and at private events — from fashion shows to gallery openings are always a big source of inspiration.
What is the most significant change you are seeing in fashion right now?
Diversity and sustainability.
Who or what is generating the greatest influence in fashion today?
Platforms have democratised fashion by giving influencers, creators, and everyday people a chance to set trends.
What defines Haute Couture in a contemporary context?
Handcrafted work is the very essence of Haute Couture, embodying exceptional artisanal expertise and meticulous attention to detail. I see Couture as an art, as a part of our culture and heritage.
In what ways are you seeing fashion houses enhance their identity/image through experiences beyond the runway?
Definitely though experiential marketing which includes immersive fashion experiences and special events. Brands engage with their audience in a more interactive and memorable way, blurring the lines between fashion, art, and entertainment. The power of music at special events is undeniable; it can set the tone, elevate the atmosphere, and create lasting memories. And that's what I call Sonic Branding.
People sometimes think of Haute Couture as more formal and fancier. Is this still the case?
Well, contrary to ready-to-wear, after the shows, it's harder to see Haute Couture pieces in the day-to-day life. But more on Red Carpet; so yes, Couture stays and is like something that is undeniable.
When was the last time you marvelled over something in fashion?
The Coperni dress that Bella Hadid wore at the Spring 2023 Paris Fashion Week is definitely a recent "WOW" Fashion moment!
Tell us a surprising story about how you got to where you are today?
I was booked in 2019 to open for Billie Eilish at a Chanel private event in New York, and not yet taking DJing seriously! It was a mix of excitement and pressure to perform at such a high-profile event, which gave me strength and courage to keep going in this direction.
In what ways might you hope to have an impact on fashion this year?
I’m really focused on "educating" people about the power of curated music at private or branded events. A lot of people expect to hear hits that get everyone dancing, but I think that’s a mistake! I curate my sets around mixing rare boogie tracks with some well-known, but elegant, pieces to create a more sophisticated atmosphere. I’m also pushing for more live DJ sets using vinyl. I truly believe vinyl has a unique impact on private events: the setup, the curation of the records, the warmth of the sound — it’s just more elevated than the typical CDJ setup. For instance, I did a series of vinyl-only sets for Louis Vuitton last January, and the crowd was genuinely amazed. They loved looking at the record covers, discovering new tracks, and hearing unknown artists — some I found in a one-dollar bin in New York! There’s a different kind of connection when you’re playing records live for an audience, versus using a standard USB stick set. It adds an element of authenticity and nostalgia that can truly elevate an event.
Can you share a mantra for the coming year?
"Embrace the unknown, trust the process, and make room for creativity." I am gonna be a mom in May so it works both personally and professionally!
