How do you define the future?
We believe that the future as a concept is something that holds many possibilities for clothing design, and it is the attempt to try to define it that makes it fascinating.

Can someone be a designer without thinking about the future?
No. For Homme Plissé Issey Miyake, design and making always look at the future.

What does the future’s aesthetic look like to you?
What we intend to design and make here at HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE is clothing which is universal, thereby exploring a sense of beauty which is timeless. We don’t know what the future’s aesthetic looks like, but we believe that it must have qualities that suggest universality.

How did 2020 change your outlook for the future?
We have become more careful and sensible than ever about each garment we design and make.

How do you imagine fashion changing in ten years?
We hope that in 10 year what we do here at HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE still stays true to its brand concept: designing and making clothing for modern lifestyles.

One thing we can start doing now that could positively impact our future?
Be aware of what we design and make at every level and step of the creative process, to create something which is original and which enriches the quality of everyday living.

What excites you about the future?
The fact that it is unknown.
